Patient Success Story: Whitney

Few things are more gratifying for our team at the Healing Bridge Clinic than to watch a former patient flourish in life due to the care they received here. Today, we share the story of Whitney. Before going through a divorce, her life had always been on track with health insurance, a roof over her head, and money to spare. After her divorce, she lost it all, even the home she shared with her two children.

“I was not well,” she said. “I think a lot of it was probably stress related due to the situation I was in at the time because it’s hard when you're struggling, kids growing up, school expenses, college expenses, and also working for a small business where you receive no health insurance, and you don’t make a lot of money.”

Whitney learned she could get free medical care at our clinic and came to us near the end of 2019. “It was a Godsend,” she said. “I got probably the best care medically that I could have. They made me feel like it was okay to be in the situation I was in, and they were absolutely there to help.”

Whitney was placed under the care of Family Nurse Practitioner Kim Campbell. She received treatments for severe gastrointestinal issues and blood pressure that she said was out of control. She received free annual physicals, mammograms, and pap smears. “With Healing Bridge, I got the medical care that I needed without having to pay anything because I had no money.”

Then, Whitney suffered a torn meniscus. Dr. Maurice Goins, a volunteer provider from Resurgens Orthopaedics in Fayetteville, examined Whitney’s knee and provided exercises to help her recover. “Fortunately, I didn’t have to have surgery, and it was truly a miracle I wasn't laid up for months.”

When Whitney’s father became ill, she started to travel back and forth from Georgia to North Carolina to care for him, leaving her unable to work. She eventually moved her father in with her and started taking real estate classes at night. When her father passed away in 2022, Whitney went back to work and eventually earned her real estate license. “I was able to really start working and making some money and can fully support myself right now.”

Now, with her health issues resolved, Whitney has lost weight and is on zero medications. She is a successful real estate agent in our area and is engaged to be married.

“Everything is going great,” she told us. “We all have these experiences in our lives, and I feel we have so much to teach other people to let them know you may be in a tough spot in your life but if you keep at it and you don’t lose faith, things will get better.”

“I’m a true believer that God certainly put the right people in my path at the time,” she said. “I don’t know how I would have done it without the Healing Bridge. It was certainly needed in my life at a time when I didn’t even know what direction I was going and I’m very thankful.”
