The stories of the men and women who have benefited from the Healing Bridge Clinic

Few things are more rewarding to us at the Healing Bridge Clinic than to learn of a former patient who is now living a life of renewed health, dignity, and hope. We first introduced you to our patient Anthony two years ago. At the time, Anthony had just been cured of Hepatitis C at our clinic - something that he didn’t even know was possible after years of drug addiction.

“It was just amazing that I got to get that treatment,” he said of his first trip to the Healing Bridge Clinic. “It’s a whole other experience. It’s more than just a medical facility. They treat you with love. They open the door for you to take care of yourself.”

Anthony’s path to our clinic is part of one of the many promises God made good on in the years after Anthony had fallen to his knees and prayed inside his jail cell. At the time, he faced going to prison for the fifth time and had just learned about the death of his grandfather Sonny – the man who raised him.

“I cried out to the Lord that I don’t want to keep doing this. My children were growing up and here I am mid-30s and needed to change,” he said.

Few things are more gratifying for our team at the Healing Bridge Clinic than to watch a former patient flourish in life due to the care they received here. Today, we share the story of Whitney. Before going through a divorce, her life had always been on track with health insurance, a roof over her head, and money to spare. After her divorce, she lost it all, even the home she shared with her two children.

“I was not well,” she said. “I think a lot of it was probably stress related due to the situation I was in at the time because it’s hard when you're struggling, kids growing up, school expenses, college expenses, and also working for a small business where you receive no health insurance, and you don’t make a lot of money.”

Whitney learned she could get free medical care at our clinic and came to us near the end of 2019. “It was a Godsend,” she said. “I got probably the best care medically that I could have. They made me feel like it was okay to be in the situation I was in, and they were absolutely there to help.”

Whitney was placed under the care of Family Nurse Practitioner Kim Campbell. She received treatments for severe gastrointestinal issues and blood pressure that she said was out of control. She received free annual physicals, mammograms, and pap smears. “With Healing Bridge, I got the medical care that I needed without having to pay anything because I had no money.”

Hello Healing Bridge Clinic family,

My name is Justin. I first came to Healing Bridge Clinic after entering A Better Way Ministries in March of 2023. At the time, my diabetes was out of control because of the chaotic lifestyle I was living. I had to go to the emergency room a week prior to coming to Healing Bridge and they determined my body was going septic. To be honest, I’m not sure I even wanted to live.

I have no doubt the Lord implanted Healing Bridge into my life to nurse me back to health, not only with the medicines they provided, but with the loving kindness that I experienced the moment I walked through the door. I was in amazement not just to even be alive, to know how close I was possibly to death, but by the kind things that people were saying around me, sowing seeds into my life.

I experienced love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and meekness. I can't emphasize enough really the care that I had. I wasn't unique to being treated that way. At Healing Bridge, they treat every single person who comes through the door like that.

Life has never been easy for Mike, a patient of the Healing Bridge Clinic. Born in Atlanta to a single mother with five children, Mike ended up moving in with an older sister at the age of 12. “That’s when I got exposed to the streets and the street life,” he said. Mike eventually ended up homeless, abusing drugs and alcohol while living under a bridge in Atlanta. “I decided to stop using, and then I met this guy who had a scheme of opening up fraudulent business accounts,” he said. Mike moved from the streets to a hotel room and eventually to an apartment after committing himself to living a sober life. A few weeks later, he was arrested for his part in the fraud and ended up incarcerated. He would spend the next two decades in and out of prison.

“Once somebody accuses you of something, they are going to lock you up. It’s up to you to prove your innocence,” he said. Eventually, Mike met a public defender who offered him an out - he could enroll in A Better Way Ministries, an 18-month program for men struggling with addiction. Mike initially rejected the offer. That night, back in his cell, he overheard a fellow inmate talk about A Better Way and was intrigued. “I called my lawyer the next day and said I would go into the program,” he said.
